Marianna Sangita is a greek/norwegian singer, songwriter and percussionist. Her adventurous musicality makes her a unique hybrid who has had a key role in creating some of the most innovative and fresh projects in the Norwegian music scene in the last decade. She has also graduated with a BA in Sound Arts and Sound Design from LCC in London and as a teacher in Complete Vocal Technique at CVI Copenhagen.

Marianna Sangita Angeletaki Røe (full name) made a name for herself through the experimental pop band Broen, with whom she released 3 albums, 2 of them on the prestigious label Bella Unio, but has these last two years brought the Mediterranean into the Norwegian jazzscene. In 2021 she won the prestigious award JazZtipendiatet and spent the year writing her commission entitled “Σπίτι/Home” for Trondheim Jazz Orchestra which premiered at Molde Jazz in 2022.

She grew up surrounded by greek folk music, but her multicultural heritage has made her search for belonging in all kinds of music. Her musical curiosity has been a driving force in travelling and learning music, from flamenco in Sevilla to the Labyrinth Musical Workshop in Crete to Catalunya, she has collected sounds and musical mentalities which she has then applied to her own creativity.

At the Labyrinth Musical Workshop she met among others the multiinstrumentalist Efrén López Sánz, with whom she has worked very closely in the last three years in the duo ON. Efrén has been a musical partner and mentor, and together they have produced a gender-bending EP entitled TMI. He is also part of Mariannas Trondheim Jazz Orchestra.

Marianna is also active as a singer in Gurls & Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, whose live album “Oui” snatched the Norwegian Grammy for Best Jazz Album 2022.

Other projects she is or has been a part of include Skadedyr “Dråper”, Anja Lauvdals Joni Mitchell Tribute, Tullkattesnutene “Vi vil ut i Verden”, Bjørn Ànte and The Band, Goylem Space Klezmer, Two Siblings and a Dad, Alf Hulbækmo and TJO, Skrap and TJO and many more. She has also appeared on film, in Johanna Seims documentary “Til Stede - From soil to soul”.

Marianna has also written music for the stage, the latest production being Corentin J-P Marcel Levens “+-”.
